Enhanced Car & Garage Sharing#141

The equivalent of family settings. To effectively manage a garage, I should be able to invite other stakeholders, such as family members who share my physical pool of cars (e.g. wife who is car enthusiast and primary car purchaser).

Related, there should be custodian access for either a hired professional who co-manages my car collection, and also for my garage. On both cases a remote account would have access to some aspects of the garage - perhaps read and write but not edit/delete? I could assign tasks to either my daughter or my wife or the garage, or my custodian could assign tasks that I need to do back to me

Was that a genuine 15 minute discussion or was this already planned?!

The family part is a new one for us! So thank you for that feature request, I like it. Let me give a good think about how we can look to add support for this.

We do already have direct sharing, but it doesn’t support editing cars yet… so we could do it that way for things like family etc (Direct Shares which support editing is somethign we’re already working on :)).

Regarding mechnics our plan is to eventually add support for garages to upload their work directly to the history file of cars on behalf of customers for work they are doing and by doing so build up a portfolio of their work for other Custodian users to see should they (and the owner of the car) want to allow it.

In the meantime we recommend sharing via a Dirct shares with service providers should you want to share details with them. Link Sharing does not include the history file but Direct Sharing does, this is primarily for security reasons and we are working on enhacing this.

Finally, regarding the idea of having a team which manages your car collection for you, we do have plans for a ‘Vendor Login’ for people and/or companies which manage multiple garages / or cars on behalf of other users.

I think other than the vendor login these features should be accounted for in #69 and #106

We do know of a fair number of users who just share their login for the family and car co-managers use cases in the meantime.

Thanks for the detailed and thoughful (let alone speedy) reply. I really like the concept of this service and I am more than happy to help where I can.

I of course thought of sharing login as a temporary work around, but it disenfranchises the rest of my family who are part of the collection. They should have their own bios and their own logins, and maybe a separate garage of their own with their own families in time.

The shared login also doesnt work for custodians/mechanics, but I can see you have separate plans there.

You’re welcome, thank you, and yes I see the need for each family member to have their own profile etc. I myself have a family which is much the same regarding our cars so I should be able to come up with something.
